Call for Counselors
![]() |
We are looking for some older athletes/young coaches to function as volunteer camp counselors. Each athlete requesting to be considered for this position will need to have a “background” check that is required by The State of Michigan. This will be run free of charge by the Wakeshma Director. A counselor’s duties will be varied. Depending on experience and interest, we will mainly be using these people on the watercraft as spotters and in the training area as assistant clinicians. We will also be looking for camp staff support with equipment and maintenance. In addition to camp activities, each counselor will be expected to “present for duty” Saturday Morning 8/2/08. This day will consist of Michigan required training for camp counselors. We will also be setting up the camp equipment on that Saturday |
.
Benefits include:
- No charge for attending the camp!
- Food, lodging included! The new guest house was great last year and will be home base again this year.
- Daily training on equipment with National Team Clinicians!
- Protected free-time for lake/boating activities with their fellow counselors!
- “Kick-off” staff party at Dr. Drew’s following training 8/2! (only for the well behaved!)
If you are or have an athlete that would like to commit to this, please contact Dr. Drew ASAP at: GDrew17@verizon.net
You will be e-mailed back an application. While we are looking for athletes with leadership and great attitudes, I anticipate this filling quickly as a “first come, first served” type issue.
Many previous counselors have expressed interest to return. We also are “kind of” expected to make room for previous campers that are now too old to participate as camp attendees. It will be most difficult to accommodate all that would like to participate as counselor/staff. Please act quickly on any desire to help out as a counselor and get back to us ASAP.
