Clinicians

The following coaches have graciously volunteered their time to insure that this year’s camp/clinic will once again offer the absolute highest level of instruction and training.

1)       Doug Boger  (California)

Doug is new to our camp this year but has been involved in gymnastics for decades.  He presently coaches a thriving team out of San Diego, CA.  He has placed several athletes on previous IAG teams.  He most recently was the woman’s coach for International DMT invitational meet at the Quebec City World Cup.  Doug is extremely well liked by both the younger and older athlete and he will be a most welcome addition.

2)       Joy Umenhofer  (Idaho)

Returning for this year’s camp, Joy is a previous USA team coach for several World Championships and has served as the World Age Group Coach several times in all events.  She has coached numerous national champions and has served USAG T&T as the National Team Coordinator.  She represents Trampoline & Tumbling well functioning as a guest coach of the USA Jr. Men’s artistic gymnastics team at The Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.  Despite coaching trampoline and tumbling at the highest level, Joy has a national reputation as one of the finest clinicians for the developing athlete as well.

3)       Robert Null (California)

Robert is our other new addition to the Scholarship Camp.  He is a nationally known elite  coach and offers his expertise at several clinics each year.  He has been named Trampoline Coach of the Year 3 times.  In addition to coaching multiple medalists at the             World Age Games from his personal team, he has been named USA World             Championship Coach 10 times.  He was the USA Olympic Coach at Sydney, Australia in    2000.  We welcome Robert and are most grateful he is spending the week in Michigan at        the Scholarship Camp.

4)       Peggy Rayson  (Indiana)

Peggy is a gym owner in Highland, Indiana and head coach of Dynamite T&T.  She is a member of the 2005 & 2006 USA National Coaching Staff.  Peggy has produced several national champions and has had athletes from her gym on many USA World Championship and World Cup teams.  Peggy has been the World Championship and WAG coach at many World Championships as well.  As a volunteer for USAG, she has served as the Elite Chair on the USAG T&T Program Committee and was the charter chairperson of the very successful “Jumpstart” program.  We are fortunate indeed that this year Peggy brings her special leadership and organizational talents as our Gymnastics Director for the camp.  Her focus will be the arrangement of rotations and coordination of clinicians and assistant clinicians.   Her vigilance will add new dimension to the camp’s training intensity and safety.

5)       Mary Swafford  (Missouri)

Mary is a Brevet level judge in both Trampoline and DMT.  In addition to coaching elite and JO level athletes, she has served as Chair of Region 4.  Her teaching style is both informative and fun.  It should be noted that on previous year’s evaluations collected from the athletes, Mary was repeatedly named as a favorite clinician.

6)       Sergio Galvez (Virginia)

We are extremely excited with Sergio’s return for 2007.  Sergio is an outstanding personality that makes learning and training fun for athletes of all ages and levels.  In addition to his head coach position with Capitol Gymnastics National Center in Arlington, VA, Sergio has distinguished himself as USA national tumbling coach for the International Age Group team and as a clinician for the Pan American Sports Organization. He has been the USA National Coach at several World Cups this year.  His presence brought an important focus to tumbling last year and Sergio was one of the 2006 athlete’s favorites.

7)       Dr. George Drew (Michigan)

George has been the USAG T&T team physician for the last seven years.  He was named to the 2005 & 2006 National Coaching Staff as DMT coach.  He served as USA national coach at both the World Championships and WAGs. In addition to coaching locally he interacts with the National Team as Chairman for the USAG T&T Scholarship and Athlete Support Committees.

8)       Catherine Cabral (Ontario, Canada)

Catherine is a professional Athletic Trainer working extensively in the field of gymnastics. She presently works in Toronto with Good Life Fitness Clubs as their athletic therapist and Elite Trainer.  Catherine has an outstanding report with younger athletes and was the athletic trainer for the Canadian National Trampoline and Tumbling team at the 2005 World Championships and International Age Group Games.  While at that event, she established solid friendships with many of the USA coaches and athletes.

9)       Abby Bennink

Abby Bennink is the Director of Camp Wakeshma. This upcoming summer will mark thirteen years for her involvement with the camp. After many years as a camper, she became a staff member in 2003 and has climbed her way up from Cabin Counselor, Unit Leader and Program Director to Director in 2007. She has been a part of USAG Camp since its partnership with Camp Wakeshma and looks forward to the many years ahead.

10)       Additionally…

We are most proud of our numerous USA National Team athletes who donate their time to be assistant clinicians to this effort.  Their presence brings excitement and fun that the camper/athletes will remember and emulate when they return to their own teams
